– Luis Angel Salas Manrique, CEO, LoxamHune – WINNER
What the judges said:
“During 2020, under his leadership, this company minimised the fall in its revenues despite operating in a country very severely impacted by the pandemic. He kept the company’s locations open to serve essential services, and safeguarded its employees, being one of the first companies in Europe to test its entire workforce for the virus. It invested heavily in improved health practices for its workforce and customers, and continued to develop its digitalisation project, upgrading its ERP system and launching a new website.
“His leadership has also seen the company take concrete actions on sustainability: it became the first rental business in Spain to be certified ‘climate neutral’ using climate offsetting measures approved by the UN and the Spanish government. And, last but not least, despite operating in a market under heavy pressure, his company performed well and was profitable.“
– Graham Arundell, former CEO, Hire Association Europe – WINNER
What the judges said:
“This year we want to honour the leader of a national rental association who has recently retired. He joined his association in 2007 and during his 13-year leadership he is credited with turning around its fortunes, which had previously seen its membership numbers and funds dwindling. He managed the organisation through the financial crisis and introduced an important series of initiatives, including the creation of a separate division for the events hire business in 2009. He added new member services and widened existing provisions to include benefits such as insurance, health and safety and training services.
“Under his leadership, the association’s two accreditation schemes – SafeHire for rental companies and Trusted Supplier – grew in stature and became widely adopted both in rental and construction. These initiatives reversed the financial fortunes of the association, enabling it to purchase the offices it had previously rented. He not only made a valued and sustained contribution to the association, he also had a significant influence within the hire sector. His drive and enthusiasm coupled with strong leadership and networking skills has driven real change within the association. He delayed his retirement in order to support the Association during the pandemic and continued in a part-time position to ensure that a seamless transition of leadership occurred for his successor, Paul Gaze.
“He was also a friend to the European Rental Association, encouraging his colleagues to participate in the association’s committees and attending events. His association engaged with the ERA in a meaningful way, helping us learn from its experiences. He also supported the Global Rental Alliance, forging contacts and encouraging cooperation between rental industries around the world.“
